Times have changed and companies need to change with them.  In today’s working world, especially with all the downsizing and reorganization, employees no longer have the “staying power” they once had before.  The younger generations are increasingly nomadic as they move from company to company based on better job titles, benefits and reward packages.  I believe the trick is to create greater value in the workplace.  Show your employees you value that they show up each day to work for your company.  Employees today need to be rewarded more frequently.  Think about possibly rewarding them on an annual basis for each year of service.  Our company does a great job of this, as we are rewarded each year with a gift of thanks.  We don’t have to work towards a 10 or 20 year gift.  Also, think about creating or increasing performance goals for the individual or departments.  Create a fun contest or a simple “just because” gift such as a candy bar or an extra 15 minutes of lunch, these are small gestures that go a long way.  Rewards and incentives motivate and make employees happy, they feel like they are valued and this WILL make them WANT to do a better job for their company.  Take a look at your company’s incentive programs, could it use a little re-vamp?
